I’m Matthew Elmslie. I’m a writer. Thanks for looking at my website; you didn’t have to do that and I appreciate it.
Some other stuff about me: I live in Canada, I was born part of Generation X, I’m agender, and my interests include the Legion of Super-Heroes, Toronto Blue Jays baseball, King Arthur, Canadian history, and Warren Zevon.
This About section replaces and supersedes any previous About sections I’ve written and should be considered the operative About section.
The motto above is Latin for “as long as I’m doing it, somebody’s doing it”. It refers to blogging. It never should have gone out of style! It’s so useful. Long-form writing; it’s indispensable. (Not that I’m the only one left still blogging, obviously.)
I made this site to contain and facilitate my writing. I’ve got a bunch of things I’m working on or want to work on. At the start this will be a fantasy story I want to tell. Working title: Palace Guard. I’m going to do it in blog form, and it’s going to take a long time. No idea how long! Maybe I’ll just keep spinning it out.
I recommend using RSS to follow the story. Or you could just keep coming here to read it! That’d be good too! Or there are all kinds of ways of keeping up. The RSS feed is https://matthewe.com/feed/ if you want it.
I’ve done something like this before, with a superhero story (link here), and I liked the experience of it. For one thing, it means people can start reading the thing before I’m finished! (Which is risky in some ways, but I don’t mind that.) The Agile methodology comes to fiction. I plan to put up updates multiple times a week, but not to any particular schedule.
It is, obviously, free to read. Once I get going at a good pace I plan to start a Patreon or some similar service, both for this story and for the aforementioned other writing, because I would like to be paid for my writing. But you should have some idea what you’re getting before you disburse any funds.
I hope you like it. I’m going to try to make it as good as I can. Please spread the word.
Thanks!
Matthew E
Promise not to let you become a slacker. No doubt, coming from your mother, this will be called ‘nagging’. Too bad. Love, Me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wow! This post sounds so suspiciously like my life I’m beginning to wonder if some mad scientist cloned one of us. Your Sliced Bread 2 sounds a bit like what I’m trying now (I’m cursed with unoriginal ideas). Good luck with your novel.
Good luck with the writing! Drop by and tell me when you’re finished, as I’m always interested in new superhero novels.
— Fritz.
Will do; thanks very much!
