Chapter 8 of the first draft is in the can. Now, should I go back and fix Chapter 7, or move on to Chapter 9? I’m leaning toward Chapter 9.

Yes, yes, write now and edit later. 🙂
Yeah, I know. It’s not so much editing, though, as it is putting in transitions and other stuff I didn’t feel like writing at the time.
I can’t really do the whole “write now; edit later” thing. If I get an idea for how I can improve something I wrote two chapters ago, I have to go back and fix it right away while I fully remember and understand what I have in mind. I’m scared that if I wait until the whole draft is done, I’ll look at my notes for fixing that part and say, “What was I talking about here?”
Doesn’t apply to Chapter 7, because there’s no inspiration to lose; it’s just doing the work. I guess it’ll depend on how easily Chapter 9 comes.
Ah, okay. If it’s a matter of reworking something in chapter 8, then it’s probably best to go back and change it. Like you said, while you remember and understand what you want to do.
I get hung up on minor edits sometimes when I should be moving forward and writing more.
